Jonathan Kirk, Ph.D.
Scientific Advisor

•  Dr. Jonathan Kirk, PhD is the Director of Translational Research, and Associate Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Research in the Section of Cardiology, Department of Medicine at The University of Chicago.

•  Jonathan has a B.S. in Bioengineering from Washington State University, and a PhD in Bioengineering from University of Pittsburgh. He received postdoctoral training at Johns Hopkins University before establishing his independent lab at Loyola University Chicago. He recently moved his lab to The University of Chicago to lead a new Center for Cardiovascular Research.

•  Jonathan's research focuses on the cardiac sarcomere, a lattice structure of motor proteins inside heart cells. Most cardiac diseases impair the heart's ability to contract and/or relax normally.

•  Jonathan's lab uses sophisticated single cell biophysical approaches, cutting-edge mass spectrometry, iPSC biology, and other technologies, to delve into the molecular mechanisms of heart failure, cardiomyopathy, atrial fibrillation, and other cardiovascular diseases.
